2012 Project 365 Day 294 Open House

Day 294 Today was Fairhaven School's Open House. We had a little informational session, a tour of all the rooms and the grounds, lots of opportunity to ask questions and talk to staff and students, and ended with a discussion here in this big circle of chairs in the school's meeting room, which also has a stage and lights and lots of windows overlooking the beautiful wooded grounds. Also outside they have a swingset, seesaws that Caroline loved, a garden, and a hill and stream where they can play, all very wooded. Inside it had some schooly features like cubbies and an office (which we were told is NOT scary unlike at many other schools LOL) but there are also lots of comfy sofas, zillions of books, a music room, lots of computers, an art room with a wall full of well-organized supplies, a workshop, a quiet room, a collection of fossils collected from the stream, framed children's art on the walls, etc etc etc, all of which was inspiring. Fairhaven is a Sudbury school that opened in 1998. It was wonderful to see an established Sudbury school. Some of us are working to open a Sudbury school in Fredericksburg. If you are interested, visit http://www.jeffersonsudburyschool.org/

  1. SO glad you don’t bring home school. Its EXHAUSTING. I don’t have my own kids, but last year I had to school my kids in Thailand at home. (meaning we even had to test) It was the most draining experience EVER, and I will fight for that not to happen again.

    • We love homeschooling. If you have to homeschool again, read about unschooling. I have lots of resources on my unschooling page on this blog. And yes, it is a shame that homework is such an issue for schoolkids. There’s no reason for it. Sudbury students only have homework if they choose to continue working on something at home that they started at school.
