We like to go to our county Independence Day celebration every year. The Spotsylvania Stars and Stripes Spectacular is always the Saturday prior to July 4th, which means we get at least two opportunities to see fireworks. Not to mention the Stars & Stripes is a fair with all that fun fair stuff like junk food, spinning rides, games, music, and crowds! I think the fireworks show is the best I’ve ever seen too. That’s why it’s hard to cull the photos and this is my longest photo blog post ever!
The fair takes place in the courthouse area and surrounding school and shopping area. The school playground, where most families picnic and watch the fireworks, was more fun for my kids than the rides this year.
It’s important to be dressed for the occasion! 😀
Fairs mean mouths turned odd colors.
We made sure to play this wrecking ball game because last year we just missed it by minutes when they closed the games and rides before the fireworks.
While I waited for darkness to fall, I photographed small portions of the colorful crowd.
Another popular activity during this year’s wait for darkness was bubble-chasing.
Thanks to my husband for helping me be in the picture sometimes.
My family likes to sing and play Charade while waiting. Caroline is showing us that she is thinking of a video game for us to guess. I think we made up this symbol to go along with book, movie title, and person. 🙂
You’ve made it to the fireworks, almost half way through this blog post! I tried to only include photos that are different from all the others, plus a couple black and white versions because I was inspired by a couple of other photographers’ black and white fireworks pictures, something I never thought of doing on my own. I think this gives you an idea of how long and varied the show was.
I like the way this next one looks like a photograph taken in outer space.
The grand finale is truly spectacular. And this year the traffic wasn’t even bad; it only took us a few minutes to get out of the parking lot. 🙂
